Wix or a done‑for‑you website?

What each one really asks of a small business owner.

Wix is a popular drag-and-drop builder: it gives you the tools and leaves the work to you. Here's how it compares with a website that's built and managed for you, and why that's the better fit for a business that needs customers.

All comparisonsFrom $249 · $49/month · No contract

The catch

With Wix, it's on you to handle…

  • Designing, writing and building every page yourself
  • Filling in the search settings correctly, page by page
  • Keeping apps, forms and settings working as things change
  • Rebuilding from scratch if you ever leave, because the site stays on Wix

The SDP difference

With SDP, it's handled for you:

  • A site designed, written and built around your business, usually live in 1–3 weeks
  • Search basics done at launch, not left as settings to fill in
  • Hosting, security, backups and updates handled every month
  • Small changes made for you, and a direct line to the team that built it

Cost over time

A builder subscription usually looks cheaper on the first invoice, and in cash terms it often is. The cost that doesn't show up on the invoice is your time: learning the editor, writing every page, choosing apps, and coming back to fix things when something changes.

With SDP there's an upfront build, from $249, then $49/month for hosting and management. You get the exact price in writing before work starts, and the monthly plan is month to month. Whether that's "more" depends on what an hour of your time is worth.

Who does the work

On Wix, you're the designer, the copywriter and the webmaster. The editor is capable, so the result depends on how much time and care you can put in, on top of running your business.

With a done-for-you site, you have a conversation about your business, review what's built, and ask for changes. We plan the pages, build the site, set up your search basics and launch it, usually in one to three weeks. After launch, small content changes are included: you send them, they get made.

Ownership and lock-in

With either option you can have your domain in your own name, and you should. Where they differ is the site itself. A Wix site is built on Wix's platform, so if you leave, you take your domain and your words and images, but you rebuild the site somewhere else.

An SDP site is built for your business, your domain is registered in your name, and there's no contract. If you ever move on, the site is handed over cleanly, so you're never starting from nothing.

Web hosting vs DNS, and why you need both

Security and updates

A hosted builder takes care of the platform underneath your site, which is one of its real strengths: you aren't patching servers. What's left to you is your own account, the apps you add, and your forms and settings.

SDP sites are fast static sites that leave very little for an attacker to go after, and the monthly plan covers hosting, SSL, backups, monitoring and security updates. Either way, the part that matters is that someone is actually responsible for it.

Speed and SEO

Wix gives you SEO settings and tools, and a well-kept Wix site can rank. The catch is that the settings only help if someone fills them in properly, and a builder page carries the platform's code for features you may not use, so speed depends on how the page is put together.

Every SDP site ships with the search basics done: titles, descriptions, structured data, a sitemap, fast pages on phones, a Google Business Profile check, and submission to Google Search Console at launch. Nobody can promise rankings, but the groundwork is done for you.

Why isn't my new website on Google yet?

The deciding factors

Where SDP pulls ahead of Wix

Wix hands you the tools. SDP hands you the finished, looked-after website, which is what a business actually needs:

  • A site that actually gets finishedWe plan, write, build and launch it for you, usually in 1–3 weeks, and nothing goes live until you're happy with it.
  • Search basics done properlyEvery site launches with titles, descriptions, structured data, a sitemap, fast mobile pages, a Google Business Profile check and Search Console submission.
  • Leads you don't missEach quote request arrives as an email and in your client portal, next to your visit numbers and change requests.
  • No lock-inYour domain is registered in your name, there's no contract, and if you ever move on, the site is handed over cleanly.

You get your hours back, and the site keeps working for you instead of waiting on you.

Questions

Wix questions, answered

Straight answers to what people ask when they're weighing it up.

For build and monthly details, see small business website pricing, or ask us directly.

Is Wix cheaper than paying someone to build my website?

In cash, a builder subscription usually is. The difference is time: with Wix you design, write and maintain the site yourself. SDP builds from $249, then $49/month covers hosting, security, updates and small changes, with the exact price in writing before work starts.

Can I move my Wix site to SDP?

Yes. A Wix site can't be exported as files to host elsewhere, so we rebuild it: your content, images and anything that works well carry over into a new, faster site. Your domain can be pointed at the new site and stays in your name.

Can I still edit my own website with SDP?

You can. Small content changes are included each month: send them and they're made, usually within a couple of business days. If you'd like to edit your own text and images, we can set you up for that too.

Will a done-for-you site rank better than a Wix site?

Not automatically, and nobody can promise rankings. What you get is the groundwork done properly from day one: fast pages, titles and descriptions, structured data, a sitemap, a Google Business Profile check and Search Console submission at launch.
